The art of Reuben Mednikoff

One of the great 'unknown' painters ,Reuben Mednikoff (1906-1975) created an astounding series of surreal paintings .
Despite years of struggling with mental health issues ,he and his partner Grace Pailthorpe are responsible ,in my  opinion ,for some of the most neglected images in surrealist art.
The King Of The Castle(1938)
The Red House (1935)
Mednikoff's art depicts oppressive ,nightmarish themes painted in many cases with an almost childlike simplicity always strikingly coloured ,yet tragically unknown to many people  .Two great examples of his work are The king of the Castle and the Red house ,both shown on this page .
